What are linkable assets and how do they keep on bringing you links?

By Ken McGaffin May 16, 2013

In this video lesson, Ken McGaffin and Garrett French explain what a linkable asset is, using real examples from a range of different sectors. Not only do great linkable assets make your link requests much more successful, they also bring you links without even asking. The video is 19 minutes long and there is a full transcript available below.

In this video, you’ll find:

  • 3 examples of great linkable assets
  • 3 questions to ask about any content you create to attract links
  • a subtle but irresistible pitch from Psychotactics.com
  • customer-focused link building and how it saves you time,
  • evergreen info gaps that you can fill and win easy links
  • passion pieces that will inspire others to link to you
  • why you need to create a portfolio of linkable assets.

You can get a full transcript of the video here.

This video is one of 20 videos and 3 live webinars that make up Ken and Garrett’s comprehensive course, Get Links! 7 Weeks to Link Building Mastery which they’re running in conjunction with MajesticSEO.

The course is not so much about using Majestic’s tools (we hope we do a good job of that already!). Rather, it’s about the comprehensive strategies you need to win links from the fantastic opportunities that Majestic finds for you.

If you’re not yet a Majestic subscriber (hard to believe I know), then sign up for the course, and you’ll get a FREE 6 months SILVER Subscription worth $299!

And if you already have a silver subscription, you’ll get a FREE upgrade to a GOLD Subscription for 6 months worth $600!

The Get Links course kicks off on Thursday May 30th. All videos and webinar recordings will be available to you for a full 12 months – and Ken and Garrett will also offer email support during that time!

Get the details (and learn how you can save $150)!

What the most recommended way to outreach our linkable assets?

    Hi Menashe,

There are many ways – and many creative ways of doing it. Here are my favorites – but others will of course differ:

    1. My own list of close contacts I’ve built up over the years – that’s always a great starting point.

    2. My newsletter – every newsletter that goes out has the potential to attract links – it’s an old trick but it still works.

    3. A variety of guest posts based on parts of the asset is another one that works very well.

    4. A short and factual press release or note to carefully selected journalists.

    5. And don’t forget this one! Sites that already link to you – they’ve already shown that they’re interested in what you offer – very likely to be interested again!

      > Hi Kenneth,

I could take your answer two ways.

First, that we’d didn’t make it clear what a linkable asset was. I’m really sorry if that was the case and let me try and put that right – a linkable asset is anything that you create that has the potential to attract significant links. And like any asset it has the potential to go on attracting links for you – I’ve created free tools and e-books that continue to attract links long after they’ve been launched. Even better, these are links you get without even asking.

Second, you might mean that you don’t know what could be a linkable asset for your business? If that’s the case, you’ve really got to think about your customers, your marketplace and your own business. What can you create that is going to be good enough to get links. The article we mention on 11 uses of vinegar was simple but good enough to get links from a dot gov site. The free e-book on writing headlines was well-written and useful and so attracted links – as well as selling places on a headline writing course. Can you take inspiration from the examples we’ve given or from other great content you come across – and adapt them to your own business?

I hope that makes it clearer.

      Best wishes,

      Ken

Just to follow up with Ken’s response to Maneshe’s question, another great way to promote your linkable assets is to join Google + Communities relevant to your subject (and that allow linking of course) and share your content with those communities. If it is quality content you will get some links and a lot of traffic
