Can you guess what this is?

I wonder if anyone can guess what the chart on the right represents?

Is it a bird? (maybe a penguin?) is it a flame? (We hope to set the link building world alight.)

We would like to know what you imagine the chart represents by suggesting your thoughts and comments below.

Next week we will hit the road to launch these charts and the background technology – which will be entirely new from Majestic. It is a technology we have been working on for some time. If you would like to get ahead of the game, you can start guessing here on the blog or come and meet us in person over the next few weeks.

We start in London at the start of the week for SMX where we have a stand. That’s where we will launch our new technology.

We will go straight from there up to Manchester, where we are at SASCon.

Then straight after the weekend I am off to Poznan in Poland for Search Marketing Day.

Try to guess right now and we’ll give you another clue in a few days. You can also make sure you get informed as soon as we are ready by making sure you have opted into our newsletter, which you can do from within your “my details” tab in your account settings (including free accounts).

    Very Interesting stuff 😉

Perhaps the concentration of new found backlinks on the timescale. Showing the Quality (Rank of the site the link comes from) by its distance to the center line ?

I’m going to be honest…I think it’s a pixelated 8-bit purple flame from some ’80s game.

Either that, or it’s showing where the biggest con…oh wait the guy above me said it.

It’s a correlation scatter plot, possibly part of a regression analysis. It’s correlation is weak and it appears as if there is still unmodeled information in there. If I had to guess, R-squared sits somewhere in the 60 range and has a strong negative bias 🙂

Probably what Joost said 🙂 But what would also be very useful in today’s post-Penguin climate is a branded anchor text distribution. Or some other clever method to see how natural a link profile is.

    i hope it’s a distribution of a new indicator.
Because the ACrank is -as for me- totally obsolete, with the new Penguin algorithm of Google : the amount of BL is no more a criteria of quality, it’s more an alert “beware, this url may be spammy/spammed”.

Really hope it’s a new indicator more in adequation with the new ingames.

It’s a time-based scatter chart visualising the tracks a particular squirrel has made in Alex’s back garden over the passed six months, thereby demonstrating Majestic SEO’s super-special new technology measuring the social reach of common back-garden squirrels.

    Squirrel Rank is here.

(see http://goo.gl/JnhdD , http://goo.gl/eLdbL and http://goo.gl/wJS7u for deeper Squirrel wisdom)

The social scatter graph illustrating the time taken for attendees to leave the bar and/or continue to be interested in conversations about the conference once the free drinks finish?

Hmmm… I thinks it’s representative of “not provided” keyword growth density over the past 7 months-ish months.

Maybe a reversed scatterplot how long it will take to crawl the website. The more links you get, the shorter it takes for your website to get crawled and the more priority the website gets.

The more links, the less spread of crawling-interval.

I’m willing to bet the upper-rightmost dots are Google – FaceBook – Yahoo, YouTube. The BLACK HOLE, lower-left is where most of us are after Panda/Penguin!

Is it an iterative algorithm that emulates PageRank finally being added to MajesticSEO???

    OMG! Maybe it is!

Unfortunately, I think my dreams will go unfulfilled this round…
