Majestic wins “Best SEO Technology”

By Dixon November 4, 2011

There were 400 or so people at the Emirates Stadium last night. Perhaps not Arsenal’s largest crowd of the season, but certainly one of the most enthusiastic.

It was the UK Search Awards and Majestic SEO was nominated in the best SEO Technology category, along with some noble competition: Wordtracker, Screaming Frog and Analytics SEO.

well – as you can see from the picture, we are delighted to say we won. My speech wasn’t the most eloquent I have ever made – but it was mercifully short. So let me take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers for helping to give Majestic the reputation that it has today. I would also like to thank Nicky and all the people at Don’t Panic for organizing the event. It was a blast!

Thanks, also, to the development team in Birmingham. Great job guys!

MajesticSEO teams up with 123 Server in Japan

By Dixon October 26, 2011

Majestic SEO are extremely proud to have entered the Japanese market with an exclusive reseller partnership in Japan. We hope our Japanese readers and maybe a few of our non-Japanese readers will try entering a domain or URL into the new Analyzer at 123analyzer.jp.

This initiative has bee a long time in the making. I can’t recall HOW long, but it feels like a year or more. Our colleagues at 123Analyzer have built a whole system based on our APIs from the ground up in Japanese! The amount of resource needed to do this and the massive amount of energy and resource needed to enter the Japanese market means that for the foreseeable future, this will be the ONLY reseller agreement offered to a Japanese partner and we are extremely enthusiastic about 123 Analyzer’s product launch.

If you find me at a conference, I would be only too delighted to tell you just how much heart has gone into this project from the guys in Japan.

Please give the Japanese system a try – even if you aren’t Japanese. It only takes a second I want to know if the new site can stand a stress test! :)

Best of luck to everyone at 123 Server in Japan.

Majestic SEO’s Brand New Feature

By Dixon October 4, 2011

You asked for it, so we finally added it. You can choose the period of time to view the back link history graph over. This feature has been added to the Backlink History Checker and will give you access to a wider range of information regarding how many different websites have and are linking to your site.

I would assume that the majority of you reading this are already familiar with how the Backlink History Checker works, so in that case I will go straight into explaining how this new feature works. When using the backlink history checker previously, you would only be able to check a limited range of information in terms of how far you could go back. But now, with the ability to go back one, two or five years you can compare exactly how well you are doing in line with your competitors. You can also see EXACTLY the times of year where the amount of sites linking to your site is at its peak and also the times of year where the links drop. This information will also be available about your competitors too.

Once you have put the five web domains that you wish to compare and clicked the compare button, you should be taken to a page that looks like the screen shot below. The only possible way to access the newest feature is to make sure that you are using ‘Historic Data’. Once you have selected ‘Historic Data’, a new button will appear. This button (highlighted in the box), is where the option to go back one, two or five years is located.

To give you an example of what the new graphs will look like, the screen shot above is comparing over five years, five different news websites. As you can see, the blue line (bbc.co.uk) is peaking between July and October each year since 2008, whereas the Washington Post (red line) and the Daily Mail (dark blue line) stay relatively flat throughout the year. Without Majestic SEO’s newest feature, this information would not have been available to you.

The update to the Backlink History Checker is available right now. So next time you want to check any backlinks to your site, make sure you take advantage of this brilliant new addition to the service. You won’t regret it.

Go to the tool and try it out here.

September 23rd 2011 Downtime

By Steve September 23, 2011

We apologise for our first major unscheduled downtime in the last 2 years. We have taken pride in our attempt to provide 24/7 availability, and continue to invest heavily in redundant equipment in order to ensure our customers receive the best possible service.

This morning, at approximately 9:30am UK time, our alarms went when our web services became unresponsive. Our engineers investigated to ensure that Majestic Systems were operational. The problem was very quickly found to be outside our systems, and contact was made with third parties immediately.

Naturally we have backup plans in the case of an outage such as this. In this instance we have to hold our hands up and apologise for a delay on our part. Our two phase disaster recovery plan places initial emphasis on recovering the API at enterprise.majesticseo.com, used by platinum account holders and resellers, before moving onto facilitating access to the website for wider use. Basing our decisions on initial estimates of time to service resumption, we delayed in starting the full recovery procedure. This was an error on our part which will not be repeated. Service was restored whilst our engineers worked on the disaster recovery systems.

Majestic SEO remains proud of the quality of its service offering. Despite this outage, we believe our uptime is one of the best in the backlinks provision industry. Rest assured, this experience will be investigated, and steps will be taken to ensure we are better able to respond more quickly should this happen in future.

*We will update this post when we have a full report on the outage.*
